- What qualifications do I need to teach at CBGS?
CBGS faculty must have a Virginia collegiate or postgraduate professional license, or be eligible for a provisional license. Teaching experience or its equivalency is preferred. Due to our dual enrollment program through Rappahannock Community College, CBGS faculty must also hold a master’s degree with sufficient graduate credits in the content area.
- How do I apply to work at CBGS?
Teachers interested in applying to work at CBGS can obtain an application from the Middlesex County Public Schools website (via the above link). All completed applications should also include a resume and cover letter directed to CBGS Director, Terri Perkins.

The Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School for Marine & Environmental Science (CBGS) is looking for dynamic and compassionate teachers who want to work in a team-oriented environment. The school provides high-ability students from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula with a rigorous curriculum through enrichment, exploratory, investigative, and career-awareness experiences. Through the integration of math, science, technology, and research, woven with marine and environmental sciences, students have the opportunity to foster an appreciation and respect for environmental issues.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for teachers in the following areas:
- Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Marine and Environmental Science
- Mathematics: Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics

Due to the dual enrollment credits our students receive for their coursework through Rappahannock Community College, staff must hold a master’s degree with sufficient graduate credits in the content area. Performance Expectations
Applicants for teaching positions at CBGS should be able to relate positively to high school students, with particular emphasis on the needs of gifted and high achieving learners. He or she should plan and implement effective lessons that meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. Applicants must also be able to: (1) create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; (2) communicate objectives effectively to students; (3) establish high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior; (4) employ a variety of instructional techniques and blended learning strategies; and (5) assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis. He or she must be professional and be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and parents. Faculty members participate in faculty and/or department meetings, professional learning sessions, and weekend field studies with our students.
