William & Mary, Marine Science, emphasis in Secondary School Teaching – M.A.
“At one point in my life, I wanted to be a contemporary version of Jacques Cousteau,” says Ms. McClain. “His educational programming [was] a favorite of mine as a child.” Always interested in science and nature, she yearned to teach others about the marine environment.
Ms. McClain is living her dream teaching biology at CBGS. She conducts the Cat Point Water Quality Testing with the sophomores, which helps them apply what they learn in class to help the community. In a world increasingly reliant on technology, she enjoys watching students grow and be challenged by field studies “When the sophomores get over those rocks and climb down the mountain and back up again, or when the juniors master paddling a kayak, it is so fulfilling to see the sense of accomplishment in their faces,” she says.
Outside CBGS, Ms. McClain enjoys singing and dance. She has sung in many choirs over the years, minored in dance, and was part of Orchesis, a dance group at William & Mary. She also has two dogs, three cats, and three chickens as pets at home.
