GENERAL FAQ
- What qualifications do I need to teach at CBGS?
CBGS faculty must have a Virginia collegiate or postgraduate professional license, or be eligible for a provisional license. Teaching experience or its equivalency is preferred. Due to our dual enrollment program through Rappahannock Community College, CBGS faculty must also hold a master’s degree with sufficient graduate credits in the content area.
- How do I apply to work at CBGS?
Teachers interested in applying to work at CBGS can obtain an application from the Middlesex County Public Schools website (via the above link). All completed applications should also include a resume and cover letter directed to CBGS Director, Terri Perkins.

Mr. Dorsey originally sought a career as a research scientist, but fell in love with teaching while conducting astronomy outreach with a group called Dark Skies Bright Kids. “In time, education and student enrichment became my life, so I switched my career path,” says Mr. Dorsey. He now assists with technology and teaches college-level physics to CBGS students (although he still gives an amazing constellation tour!).
Mr. Dorsey focuses on challenging all students to reach their fullest potential: supporting those who struggle with physics concepts, while offering enrichment opportunities to others looking to delve deeper into the material. “Physics knowledge assists you with rationally coming upon the following situations: key world issues, many political standpoints, environmental concerns, commercial products/advertisements, [and] power cost/pay back,” he says.
As an avid chess player, Mr. Dorsey hopes to create a competitive chess team at CBGS and take them to states and eventually national tournaments. In his spare time, Mr. Dorsey is also a competitive racquetball player.
