Mr. James Beam

Year Appointed: 2006
University of Maine, Earth Science Education, Biology minor – B.S.
University of Maine, Oceanography – M.S.

Mr. Beam has always had a passion for science and the natural world. “I found over time that understanding and observing earth and marine processes and being able to share that with others on an almost daily basis was something I wanted to continue”. In fact, Mr. Beam hopes that someday one of his former students will replace him as the Marine & Environmental Science teacher!

16723324881_b449f1a2b5_o“At CBGS –it’s all about relevance, interdisciplinary skills, and making memories,” says Mr. Beam. Learning math and science also teaches students important skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. Mr. Beam enjoys being able to incorporate field studies in his teaching at CBGS.

“The outdoors is as much an extension of the classroom as the classroom should be to the outdoors,” he says. Field studies are a tool for further understanding, and a way to make learning fun for his students. Mr. Beam also dreams of living “Swiss Family Robinson-style” in a treehouse with his wife, who also teaches at CBGS.
